In conjunction with community, industry and educational partners, BGS worked alongside climatetech company BlocPower to pilot the Boston-based Civilian Climate Corp program in Spring/Summer of 2024. The program provided 16-weeks of paid training for formerly court involved and previously incarcerated individuals to enter the building electrification sector. The program consisted of 10 weeks of classroom learning focused on Fundamentals of Energy Efficiency Building Operations, Building Science Principles, Air Source Heat Pump technology, Construction Basics, OSHA 10 and Career Readiness skills. The classroom portion was then followed by 6 weeks of on the job training with employer partners. A second cohort is currently being planned.
